Privacy policy

In short: SIM MONITOR CO doesn't ask for your name or email, doesn't use advertising or tracking, and doesn't sell data. To run a simulation, the monitor and controller exchange simulated vital signs through our server. If you use a licence code, we record how often that licence is used (by its serial number only).

This policy explains how SIM MONITOR CO PTY LTD (ACN 703 289 169), "we", handles information when you use the SIM MONITOR CO website at simmonitorco.com.au and the SIM MONITOR CO apps for iPhone, iPad and Android (together, "SIM MONITOR CO"). We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What SIM MONITOR CO is for

SIM MONITOR CO is a training tool that shows simulated vital signs for healthcare simulation. It is not a medical device. Please don't enter real patient information anywhere in SIM MONITOR CO, including in scenarios you write or pictures you show on the monitor.

Information we handle

Simulation rooms. Each simulation uses a six-character room code (SimCode). The current simulated settings for the room (heart rate, rhythm, blood pressure and so on) are kept on our server so the monitor and controller stay in step. They contain no personal information and are deleted whenever the server restarts.
Licence use. If you enter a licence code, the server checks it and records when a controller opens, which built-in scenarios are opened or run, the room code and how long a run lasted, linked only to the licence's serial number. We don't record names, email or IP addresses with these records, and scenarios you write yourself are recorded only as "custom". Licence holders such as hospitals may ask us for a summary of their own licence's use. We also look at these records to spot licence codes that are being shared or copied.
In-app purchases. Purchases are made through Apple or Google; we never see your payment details. We use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA) to confirm purchases. It receives an anonymous app user ID and your purchase history from the store. We store that anonymous ID with the licence code we issue for your purchase, so you can restore it later.
Pictures you show ("My image"). A picture you choose is shrunk on your device and passed through our server straight to the monitor. It is not saved on the server or in our logs, and the monitor deletes it when you clear it.
Camera. The app uses the camera only to scan the monitor's QR code. Camera images stay on your device and aren't saved or sent anywhere.
Contacting us. If you email us, we keep your message and email address to reply and keep a record of the conversation.
Technical logs. Like any website, our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical logs of requests (which can include IP addresses) for security, rate limiting and fixing problems. We don't use them to identify or profile people.

Stored on your device

Your browser or the app keeps your licence code, scenarios you create, your lab-units choice and the state of a running scenario on your own device. They stay there unless you choose to send them, for example when moving your settings from sim.medskillz.org to simmonitorco.com.au. Removing the licence code from the controller, or clearing your browser's site data, deletes them. SIM MONITOR CO doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies, and has no analytics.

Who else handles data

Render (Render Services, Inc., USA): hosts the website and server.
Neon (Neon, Inc.; database in Singapore): stores the licence use records and purchase-to-licence records.
RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA): confirms in-app purchases.
Apple and Google: handle app downloads, payments and refunds under their own privacy policies.
VentraIP (Australia): our domain name and email.

Some of these providers are outside Australia, so information may be stored or processed in the USA or Singapore. We choose providers that protect the information they hold and only share what each needs to do its job. We don't sell personal information or share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

Room settings: until the server restarts. Licence use records: while the licence is active and for up to two years after, then deleted or summarised. Purchase-to-licence records: while you may need to restore your purchases. Emails: as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and our records.

Children

SIM MONITOR CO is made for healthcare education and isn't directed at children.

Your choices and rights

You can use the free features without a licence code or an account. You can ask us what information we hold about you or your licence, ask us to correct or delete it, or make a complaint, by emailing admin@simmonitorco.com.au. We'll reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes

We'll update this page if the way SIM MONITOR CO handles information changes, and show the date at the top. Important changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
